Câu chuyện bắt đầu sau khi ông bố (Tim Robbins) ra ngoài có việc, hai anh em Danny (Janah Bobo), 6 tuổi, và Walter (Josh Hutcherson) 10 tuổi tình cờ khám phá một bộ trò chơi cũ nát có tên Zathura. Sau khi dụ dỗ ông anh chơi cùng không được, Danny quyết định chơi một mình. Ngay khi bắt đầu, cậu bé nhận ra đây không phải một trò chơi bình thường.
