Bộ phim xoay quanh vụ án nổi tiếng về việc Alfred Dreyfus bị buộc tội phản quốc vào thế kỉ 19 tại Pháp và bị đày ra tù ở đảo Devil. Sau khi Picquart được thăng chức và chuyển sang bộ phận mới, ông phát hiện ra những sai lầm trong bằng chứng buộc tội Dreyfus và cho rằng anh ta vô tội. Picquart đã đặt cả sự nghiệp và cuộc đời mình vào nguy hiểm để theo đuổi đến cùng chân tướng của sự việc, tìm ra kẻ phản quốc thật sự và trả lại công bằng cho Dreyfus.
